Events coming up in 2024

Thursday 11th July, we will be holding another Prosecco Strawberry Tea at the Bowling Club between 2 and 4 pm.  This was very successful last year and we hope you will join us for this event.  Details of tickets will be in next month’s disc.

Friday 15th November, A Coffee Morning and Book sale will take place at Lesley’s house from 10.30.  This event has always provided a good income for us and in the process selling books that have been donated.  Start collecting paperback books please.

Annual General Meeting – 22 June 2024

Saturday, 22nd of June 2024 at 11:00am

BADAM AGM will be held on Saturday 22 June 2024 at 11am at Bingham Bowls Club. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served from 10.30am. All are welcome. We look forward to seeing you.

Events coming up in 2021 and 2022

Friday November 12th at 10.30 is a coffee, cake and book morning. Held at 17 Tythby Road, the home of Lesley our Secretary.

£2 for the coffe and cake plus £1 each book purchased or £5 for as many books as you can carry home.

We need books donating for this event – our first since March 2020 owing to the pandemic. If you have any books that you have collected during lockdown and no longer need them, please donate to the event, we need lots of them.

If you need someone to pick them up from you, please let your visitor know or ring the number on the disc and we will arrange collection.

Thursday 18 November at the Buttercross 10.00 we will be holding a book stall to sell any books left over from the coffee morning.

2022

The BADAM Curiosity Quiz returns next year to the W.I. Hut on Friday 1 April 2022. We had Bob and his “bits and bobs” visit us in March 2020 just before the lockdown was announced. It was a hugely successful evening in both raising money and having a wonderful time.

For those who missed it last time, Bob brings objects from the past and asks what they are, and what they are used for.

Tables of 4 get together to discuss and write down their answers.

There will be a supper provided and a bar will be open throughout the evening. More details to follow but in the meantime put the date in your brand new 2022 diaries.

October 2019 Magazine

In our October magazine:

  • Susie Cox interviewing Sandra Adams. Sandra is a resident of Bingham who has been blind since birth. She talks about her childhood and the challenges she has overcome.
  • Pat Harland talking about the role knitting has played in her life.
  • Maurice Stafford recalling his visits to his grandparents.
  • An archive item from Mrs Wade about ‘make do and mend’ during the war years.

September 2019 Magazine

In our September magazine:

  • An interview by Jane Roberts with Holly Parberry. Holly is 15 years old and a member of St John’s Ambulance Brigade. Holly is off to Africa with the Brigade in January 2020. She is one of 14 cadets travelling from the UK. There will be cadets from all over the world taking part in the activities and competitions.
  • Douglas and Jenny Travers gave a talk on Bingham Cemetery, it’s history from Victorian times to today. The council minutes recorded the first meeting on 7th April 1887 when the matter was discussed. Land was eventually purchased and plans approved for the current layout.
  • An article from the archives by Ethel Manson on the efforts required to travel by train in the 1930’s.
